CSA Box for the Week of November 21, 2016

Welp, the time has come: It’s the very last CSA box of the year! We wanted to include some nice storage crops for you so that if you can’t use them in the next week or two, they’ll keep really well for weeks (or even months!) if kept in a cool, dry place. Here are your items for the final box:

Dried beans: We often put together soup mixes at the end of the year with a colorful variety of beans, and we wanted to include this mix for your final bag of beans. These work wonderfully in chilis and any kind of soup.

Beets: Will store well in a bag in your fridge for at least a few weeks.

Shallots: Add a bit of oniony flavor to any dish, or make some caramelized shallots to add to mashed potatoes, casserole, or a decadent mac ‘n’ cheese. These store especially well.

Yukon Gold potatoes: Perfect for your Thanksgiving mashed potatoes! We like these a lot better than Russets for flavorful mashed potatoes.

Sweet potatoes: There are a lot of Thanksgiving dishes that feature sweet potatoes, too. And while these are a different crop from yams, they can often be used in place of yams in recipes. Always store sweet potatoes in a cool, dry place, but never in the fridge.

Yellow onion

Pumpkin: We had to give you one last New England pie pumpkin so you can whip up some homemade pies this week! If you’ve never done it, it really is quite simple (and sooooooo yummy). Here’s a pumpkin pie recipe I like.

Winter squash: One more beautiful Butternut squash for everyone.

Happy winter cooking, and thank you so much for being a part of our CSA this year. We are so grateful!
